PromptPerfect Is Shutting Down: What You Need to Know (and What to Switch To)

PromptPerfect stops new signups in June 2026 and goes offline September 1. Here's the shutdown timeline, how to export your prompts, and the best replacement tools — with a 25% off coupon for switchers.

On March 14, 2026, Jina AI updated the PromptPerfect site with a shutdown notice. The service will stop accepting new signups in June 2026 and go offline entirely on September 1, 2026. If you're reading this, you're probably one of the thousands of paid PromptPerfect users trying to figure out what to do next.

This post covers everything we know about the shutdown, what it means for your saved prompts, and the best replacement options — including one that was built for the same job PromptPerfect did, just broader and cheaper.

The upstream cause: Elastic completed its acquisition of Jina AI in October 2025. Post-acquisition, Jina has refocused on the multimodal embeddings and search foundation models Elastic bought for. PromptPerfect — a consumer-facing prompt optimizer built on a completely different stack — didn't make the cut.

Full disclosure: we build PromptAI, which is one of those replacements. We've tried to keep this guide honest about where PromptAI fits and where other tools might fit better.

The shutdown timeline at a glance

Jina AI's announcement was light on dates. Here's what we've been able to confirm from the public shutdown page and their support responses:

DateWhat happens
March 14, 2026Shutdown announcement published on promptperfect.jina.ai
Early June 2026New signups disabled. Existing users retain full access.
August 2026Final 30-day warning emails sent to paid subscribers
September 1, 2026Service goes offline. Saved prompts are no longer accessible.

If you're on an annual plan, Jina AI has indicated it will prorate refunds for the remaining months. Check the current support page for the refund form — we won't link to it here because the URL may change as the wind-down progresses.

First thing to do: export your prompts

PromptPerfect doesn't have a bulk export API. If you've spent two years building up a library of optimized prompts, you'll need to extract them manually. Here's the fastest path:

  1. Open your PromptPerfect dashboard and sort saved prompts by date modified, most recent first.
  2. For each prompt, copy both the original and the optimized version into a local file. Markdown works well — one file per prompt, or one big file with ---separators.
  3. If you have more than ~50 prompts, consider triaging first: which ones do you actually still use? You don't need to migrate prompts you haven't touched in a year.
  4. Store the exported file somewhere durable. Notion, a GitHub repo, Raycast snippets, Alfred snippets, or a Google Doc all work. Don't leave the only copy on your laptop.

Even if you plan to switch to a tool that doesn't use saved prompts (like PromptAI, which is pure enhancement — no library), keeping the export is useful: you may want to re-enhance your best ones in the new tool and save the results to your chosen prompt store.

Don't wait until August. The final month is when everyone else will be exporting and asking for migration help. Pull your prompts out now while the service is calm and Jina AI's support queue is short.

What to switch to

PromptPerfect's core value was prompt optimization— you pasted a rough prompt, it returned a polished, structured version ready to send to GPT, Claude, Midjourney, DALL-E, or others. That's the job your replacement needs to do well.

Five tools occupy that space today. Here's how they stack up:

1. PromptAI — the closest functional replacement

PromptAI enhances whatever prompt you type, right inside the chat box — no separate dashboard, no library to manage. Install the Chrome extension, type a rough prompt in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, or Perplexity, click enhance, and it gets rewritten with role, task, context, constraints, and output format. The macOS desktop app adds a global ⌘⇧P hotkey that works in Cursor, Claude Code, and any terminal or text field.

Where it matches PromptPerfect: turns vague prompts into structured ones; works across multiple AI models; research-backed enhancement patterns.

Where it's different:PromptAI is pure enhancement — there's no stored prompt library inside the tool. If you want a library, you keep it wherever you already store snippets (Notion, Raycast, repo). Many former PromptPerfect users see this as a plus: one less tool to manage.

Pricing:$10/month (Basic) or $20/month (Pro) monthly, as low as $9.08/month (Basic) annual. Compare to PromptPerfect's former $9.99/month tier. See current pricing →

Migration offer: use code PERFECTSWITCH for 25% off your first year on any annual plan. Valid through December 31, 2026. See the migration page →

2. AIPRM — template library for ChatGPT

If your PromptPerfect usage was mostly about finding well-structured prompts rather than optimizing your own, AIPRM's template library is a different but credible answer. It injects a sidebar into ChatGPT with thousands of community-rated templates covering SEO, marketing, programming, and writing.

Trade-offs: ChatGPT-only (no Claude, no Gemini); you work in a sidebar UI; templates can go stale. But for repeatable marketing workflows, the curated library saves real time.

We wrote a longer piece on when AIPRM fits and when it doesn't: AIPRM vs PromptAI: Honest Comparison.

3. FlashPrompt — lightweight enhancer

FlashPrompt is a newer browser extension with a similar one-click enhancement model. Smaller feature set than PromptAI, narrower AI platform support, and a simpler pricing page. Worth a look if PromptAI feels over-featured for your needs.

4. Prompeteer — manual prompt engineering

Prompeteer is more of a prompt writing tool than an enhancement tool — you build prompts from parameterized templates. Closer in spirit to the old PromptBase marketplace model. Suits users who prefer explicit structure to automatic enhancement.

5. ChatGPT Custom GPTs / Claude Projects

If you only use one AI platform, its native prompt-management features may be enough. ChatGPT Custom GPTs let you save instructions and knowledge files per assistant; Claude Projects do similar. These aren't optimization tools — you still have to write the instructions well — but they handle the “saved prompt” half of what PromptPerfect did.

How to choose your replacement

The honest question isn't “which tool is best,” it's “which of PromptPerfect's jobs do I actually need?” Most users did three things with it:

  1. Enhance rough prompts. You type a rough idea, it gives you a polished prompt. → PromptAI or FlashPrompt.
  2. Store good prompts. You save prompts you like for later reuse. → AIPRM (templates), Notion, Raycast, or repo.
  3. Discover prompt patterns. You browse for inspiration. → AIPRM's library, PromptHero, PromptBase.

Few people need all three in one tool. If you pick a dedicated enhancer for job #1 and use your existing notes app for job #2, the setup is simpler than PromptPerfect ever was.

The PromptAI migration path

If PromptAI is your answer, here's the full switch in four steps:

  1. Install the Chrome extension. Download it from the Chrome Web Store. Log in or sign up.
  2. Apply the PERFECTSWITCH coupon. At checkout, enter PERFECTSWITCH for 25% off any annual plan, valid through December 31, 2026.
  3. Import your prompt library (optional). Paste each exported PromptPerfect prompt into PromptAI, enhance, and save the result in your preferred store (Notion, repo, Raycast).
  4. Set it as default. Pin the extension in Chrome. On macOS, install the desktop app for ⌘⇧P in Cursor, Claude Code, and any other text field.

Our honest take

PromptPerfect going offline is bad news for its users, but it's not a disaster. The prompt-optimization space has matured a lot since PromptPerfect launched in 2022 — there are more options now, and most of them are cheaper, actively maintained, and cover more AI platforms than PromptPerfect did.

Our opinion, for what it's worth: treat the shutdown as an opportunity to simplify. A lot of former PromptPerfect users were paying for features they didn't use. You probably don't need a dedicated prompt library, a separate enhancement tool, and a marketplace — you need one thing that enhances your prompts in the tools you already use, and a notes app for the few prompts worth saving. That's the world PromptAI was built for.

Whichever direction you go, the single most important action this week is exporting your prompts before support gets slammed. Everything after that can happen on your own timeline.

Bottom line

PromptPerfect is ending. Your prompts don't have to. Export them this week, pick a replacement that matches how you actually work, and use the shutdown as a forcing function to simplify a bloated prompt stack. Most former PromptPerfect users will end up happier with their next tool than they were with their last one.

Frequently asked questions

Is PromptPerfect really shutting down?

Yes. Jina AI announced it will stop accepting new signups in June 2026 and take the PromptPerfect service offline on September 1, 2026. Existing paid users will retain access until that date, after which the product and its saved prompts will no longer be available.

Why is PromptPerfect shutting down?

Elastic completed its acquisition of Jina AI in October 2025. Post-acquisition, Jina AI has publicly shifted focus to its search foundation models and embedding products (Jina Reader, Jina Embeddings, Jina Reranker) — the assets Elastic bought. PromptPerfect was a separate product line that did not fit that direction, and the company has chosen to sunset it rather than continue maintenance.

What happens to my saved prompts on PromptPerfect?

You can export your prompts as long as the service is live — we recommend doing this before September 1, 2026. Go to your PromptPerfect dashboard, open each saved prompt, and copy the text into a local file, Notion page, or prompt library. There is no bulk-export API, so plan time for larger libraries.

What's the best PromptPerfect replacement?

For most use cases, PromptAI is the closest functional replacement — it enhances any prompt you type across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, and Perplexity with one click, and is actively maintained. Other options include AIPRM (template library, ChatGPT-only) and FlashPrompt (lighter-weight enhancer). Pricing and fit vary by workflow.

Is there a migration discount for PromptPerfect users?

Yes. Use code PERFECTSWITCH at checkout for 25% off your first year on any annual plan. Valid through December 31, 2026. This applies to new and existing PromptAI accounts upgrading to annual billing.

Will PromptAI import my PromptPerfect prompts automatically?

Not at this time. PromptAI's model is enhancement, not storage — you type a prompt, it restructures it. If you have a library of saved PromptPerfect prompts, the cleanest migration is to paste them into PromptAI one at a time, let it enhance them, and save the enhanced versions wherever you currently keep prompts (Notion, a repo, Raycast snippets, etc.).

Should I switch now or wait until September?

Switch now. SEO, habits, and billing cycles all take weeks to settle. If you wait until the August panic window, you'll be troubleshooting a new tool under deadline pressure. Starting now gives you months to build muscle memory and confirm the replacement fits your workflow before your old tool goes dark.

Does PromptAI work on the same AI chat tools?

PromptAI works in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, and Perplexity via a Chrome extension, and in any macOS app (Cursor, Claude Code, terminals, text fields) via a global ⌘⇧P hotkey in the desktop app. That's a broader surface than PromptPerfect's browser-only footprint.

Stop rewriting prompts. Try the one-click enhancer.
