Install and grant Accessibility
Open the DMG, drag PromptAI to Applications, launch it, and grant Accessibility permission. This lets the hotkey capture and replace text across apps.
Sign in
Use your PromptAI account — the same one you use for the Chrome extension or the web demo. If you are new, a free account works to start.
Type a prompt anywhere
Open Claude Code, Cursor, Antigravity, VS Code, Warp — any app with a text input — and type a one-line prompt as you normally would.

The enhanced, structured version replaces your text in place. Hit enter and your AI tool receives a prompt that is 5–10× more specific.

One extra step the first time
PromptAI Desktop is in beta and not yet code-signed, so macOS shows a security warning on first launch. This is normal — here is how to open it:
- 1.Open the DMG and drag PromptAI to your Applications folder.
- 2.Open PromptAI. If you see Not Opened, click Done.
- 3.Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security.
- 4.Scroll down and click Open Anyway next to the PromptAI message.
- 5.Click Open on the final prompt, then grant Accessibility permission when asked. You are set.

What is PromptAI Desktop?
PromptAI Desktop is a macOS menu-bar app that rewrites your prompt into a structured version from a global hotkey. You type a one-liner anywhere — Claude Code, Cursor, Antigravity, VS Code, Warp — press Cmd+Shift+P, and the enhanced prompt replaces the text in place. The whole round trip takes about two seconds.
What apps does it work with?
Claude Code, Antigravity, Cursor, VS Code (Copilot Chat, Cline, Continue), Warp, Ghostty, iTerm, Terminal.app, Zed AI, and any other macOS app with a text input. Because the capture happens at the OS level, there is no per-app integration — if you can type into it, PromptAI can enhance it.
Do I need an API key?
No. PromptAI uses our managed enhancement service, so you do not need to configure OpenAI, Anthropic, or any other API key for the rewrite step. Your downstream AI tool (Claude Code, Cursor, etc.) continues to use its own credentials for the actual response.
Does my prompt get sent to a server?
Yes — the enhancement runs on our backend so the prompt-engineering logic stays current. We do not train on your prompts and we do not store them beyond the immediate request.
Can I change the hotkey?
Yes. The default is Cmd+Shift+P. You can rebind it to any combination in the app preferences. Cmd+E and Option+Space are popular alternatives.
Is there a Windows version?
Not yet. The current release is macOS only. Windows support is in progress.
What are the macOS requirements?
macOS 12 Monterey or later. We ship separate native builds for Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4) and Intel Macs — pick the matching one on the download page (Apple menu → About This Mac shows your chip). You will need to grant Accessibility permission on first launch so the hotkey can capture and replace text.
